Developing countries are now able to experience the benefits of renewable energy and in 2015, the world’s poorest countries invested more money in renewable energy than the richest ones for the first time according to a new report by REN21.
However, there is still room for improvement as one in five people still lack access to electricity as revealed in recent research by the United Nations Development Programme. This is particularly the case in rural areas further away from the electricity grid, where people are otherwise using relatively expensive, inefficient and unreliable diesel generators and kerosene lamps.
