Vergnet is currently attending the sixth ERA Conference, taking place in Oran, Algeria. ERA 2015, whose generic theme is “renewable industry, diversification factor of the national economy” is a part of the planned energy diversity that would permeate multiple programs launched by Algeria. The event, organised by The National Solar Energy Institute (INES), runs from 26th – 28th October 2015.
With the updating of the Renewable Energy National Development Programme, Algeria is confident in its renewable energy production with forecasts predicting that in 2030, 27% of national electricity production should be from renewable sources.
Boasting a large solar potential, Algeria could better meet the needs of the single electricity market while developing new export opportunities. The event aims to showcase this potential and to highlight how the regional development of solar energy provides opportunities for investment in photovoltaics.
As part of the conference programme, during the session dedicated to “Solar: the emergence of an industrial sector” on Tuesday 27th October, Vergnet’s Eric Vales (Product Engineer), presented the company’s know-how in solar and hybrid solutions and its track-record in delivering large scale renewable projects in Africa.
Vergnet specialise in producing renewable energy solutions for diverse environments, installing both wind and solar PV products across six continents, including a solar farm in the Republic of Kiribati, which will supply 855MWh of energy and save 227,000 litres of diesel per year, and a hybrid power plant in Kiffa, Mauritania, the first of its kind in the West African sub region.
With over 25 years’ experience working in challenging and remote locations, Vergnet currently has wind turbines in West Africa,at the Nouadhibou Wind Farm in Mauritania and successfully installed the biggest wind farm in sub-Saharan Africa to date, located in Ashegoda near Mekelle in the Tigray region.
