Four Vergnet MP-R 275kW wind turbines are producing clean, green energy along the I-90 freeway in New York State
Vergnet completed a significant US project in New York State this April with a total of four MP-R 275kW turbines now producing clean, green renewable energy on the Interstate 90 (I-90) freeway.
The I-90 is a transcontinental freeway, and the longest Interstate Highway in the United States at 3,020.54 miles (4,861.09 km).
The project, developed for the New York State Thruway Authority, was signed in July 2013 followed by construction, installation and commissioning in November 2014. It is part of a New York state initiative to utilise more renewal energy with an overall goal of generating 30 percent of energy from renewables.
Crucially, all of the grid-connected turbines are equipped with Vergnet’s polar package to deal with the extremely low temperatures often experienced in the area in winter.
Following commissioning late last year, the turbines were put to the test, performing well during a particularly cold winter in New York.
The completion of this latest project affirms Vergnet’s place as a market leader in the medium wind sector with the ability to meet the needs of a range of distributed generation projects needs including hurricane prone islands and cold weather conditions.
In fact, the USA is the first country worldwide to contain all current Vergnet turbine models.
